St Ives Rangers 2, Eaton Socon res. 0

3rd January 2015 :: Cambs FA County League MPG 1B

Eaton travelled with a good mixture of old heads and young lads hoping to get some well needed points. They started off sluggish, after playing in a new formation which was hard on some players. They went 1-0 down through a cross come shot goal, which seemed to wake Eaton and they managed to start retaining the ball a lot more snuffing out St Ives. They introduced Wayne Dickinson up top to hold the ball up and it worked. But Eaton were soon to be robbed over what seemed a definite goal as Ben Argyle shot from out side the box, which the keeper could only parry up into the goal. The keeper appeared to fumble back, grabbing the net to slap the ball away. However this wasn't spotted by the officials, and the ref looked to his linesman who flagged a ground kick. They went into half time 1-0 down but felt the game was theirs to be won. But luck was against Eaton, with two further goals were disallowed for offsides, despite Eaton's management strongly believing that one of which was clearly on side. It weren't to be Eaton's day and St Ives were to score against the run of play. Eaton kept St Ives down to only four shots all game unfortunately two were put away. Eaton will need to re-group fast as relegation rival games come thick and fast.
