Eaton Socon 2, Fowlmere 0

27th February 2016 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier

Eaton remained in second place after a hard fought 2-0 win over a well organised Fowlmere side. The three points made the current batch of Eagles record breakers as their points tally of 46 is the best points total by an Eaton team in the Premier League. The clean sheet was also a third in a row and the unbeaten run to 16. However this was far from being an easy game as Fowlmere made it very difficult for Eaton from the start. It took ten minutes for Eaton to have their first worthwhile chance and this fell to Wilks, but his effort was well saved. After a lot of play within the midfield Eaton finally broke through on 34 minutes when a corner from Kingsbury was headed against the bar, but Mayson Byatt reacted the quickest and headed home. Eaton continued to the push and Wilks had another chance after great work from Whittingham, but his shot was saved by the keeper.

Eaton went in one up at half time and came out and played some great football. The best move of the game came on 60 minutes when great work from Kay saw Kingsbury turn the ball inside to Whittingham whose shot clipped the bar. Josh Spavins was the next person to see an effort hit the bar when his header looped over the keeper and on to the frame of the goal. Eaton desperately needed that second goal and it finally came after great work from Molony saw a great ball in. Fox bullied the defender at the near post and the ball fell to Whittingham who scored past the Fowlmere keeper. 2-0 was a fair result and one that keeps the pressure on the leaders.
