Eaton Socon 4, Cherry Hinton 0

12th March 2016 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier

It was an amazing day for Eaton as they moved in to second place after a fine 4-0 win over Cherry Hinton. With Shelford, Fulbourn losing and Hardwick and Wisbech St Mary drawing, Eaton have managed to keep the pressure on the teams about them. With Josh Spavins pulling out injured in the morning, young Ashley Howard stepped in at centre half and played a big part in Eaton keeping their fourth clean sheet in a row. Eaton to be fair dominated the game with Cherry Hinton having few chances on the Eaton goal. It only took 8 minutes before Eaton turned early pressure into a goal when good work from Byatt and Kingsbury saw the impressive Whittingham race clear and plant the ball past Banthorpe in the Cherry Hinton goal. Eaton then continued to make chances with Kingsbury and Wilks going close. But it took until the first minute of the second half for Eaton to double their lead when Ben Wilks latched on to a great ball from Dawson and his cross eluded the Cherries keeper a nestled in the net. The third was not long in coming when man of the match Shaun Flack raced down the right and put in a great centre for Scott Kingsbury whose towering header made it 3-0. Ben Wilks then scored his second to make it four, and the afternoon was nearly completed when Flack had a shot that rattled the upright. Richard Kay then nearly rounded of a great performance when he was put through by Kingsbury, but the ball bobbled before he connected and the ball went over the top.

Eaton now unbeaten in the league since September on a run of 17 games... Dare to dream ??? The A team lost 4-0 away at Foxton and their chances of promotion are now looking slim. Great day though at River Road, nice weather and a good crowd.
