Hardwick A 0, Eaton Socon A 8

2nd April 2016 :: Cambs FA County League MPG 3A

In a game Eaton Socon needed to win to keep their very slim promotion hopes alive, after results went their way, in the last few weeks of Eaton Socon's bad run. Today at Hardwick turned out to be a near perfect day.

Eaton Socon dominated the game from start too finish, in the early exchanges Eaton Socon came close on numerous times, James Taylor and Damian Chamberlain with long range efforts, and with Asa Johnson's pace causing the Hardwick defence a headache, you could sense it was only a matter of time before the Eaton Socon lads found the opener.

This came from a long pin point throw from Perri Ransley straight on the head of Alix Girdlestone who nodded into the Hardwick net. Eaton Socon were now playing some lovely football, with smiles on their faces and they were completely in the mood today and grabbed a second when Asa Johnson was played in and cleverly lofted the ball over the keeper and in.

Eaton Socon never looked like letting off the pace and intensity from minute one. They got their third when Asa Johnson made a great run and turned his marker only to be brought down in the box to be awarded a penalty. Damian Chamberlain stepped up and brilliantly converted into the bottom left hand corner with ten minutes left until half time.

Eaton Socon got their fourth when a good ball through, from an on the day brilliant 'man of the match' performance from Joe Cerveno found Simon Beever, who turned his marker and slotted home, it was unknown to the management why Beever was in a strikers position, although luckily he finished like one, Simon and Dean then considered the roll - on roll off substitution system to use.

Eaton Socon grabbed another before half time which was, by a long shot goal of the day. With brilliant work on the left from James Taylor who played a cheeky back heel pass into the path of Toby McEvoy, who like most times this season put an inch perfect ball into the danger area was brilliantly headed home by Asa Johnson, half time whistle then blew and it was 5-0 to the Eaton Socon A Team.

The second half started and the Eaton Socon lads started where they left off. After a few early chances went a stray, brilliant work from Alix Girdlestone and Joe Cerveno found Damian Chamberlain put a brilliant cross perfectly onto Asa Johnson's head, hat-trick hero!

Eaton Socon kept plucking away and for the next fifteen minutes the game went quiet, Simon then rung the changes and added fresh legs, Sam Ward was the next to get close to scoring, then Damian Chamberlain had two goals disallowed for offside.

The seventh goal arrived when a brilliant ball over the top from Shane Smith found substitute Jake Dexter, who brought the ball down and finished low into the bottom corner.

The final goal of the game came when a long throw from Jake Dexter was defended well and the cleared ball fell to Joe Keech who used his acrobatics to knee the ball home. Full time.
