Eaton Socon 2, Hemingfords United 1

16th August 2016 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier

Eaton ground out a hard fought win at home to a hard working United team. Eaton were slow out of the blocks in the first ten minutes but United never troubled Wale in the Eaton goal. On 13 minutes Eaton took the lead when a good exchange between Fox, Wilks saw Bassett fire home from the edge of the area. Eaton should have kicked on from there, but they got themselves into a rut allowing United to play some nice neat football. And this paid off on 27 minutes when a ball over the top was well controlled and the United player waltzed through the Eaton defence and slotted the ball past Wale. This was finally the cue for Eaton to get a grip of the game and on 33 minutes Lee Bassett picked the ball up 25 yards out and drove the ball past English to give Eaton the lead again.

In fairness Eaton really should have buried the game before half time as they had three or four guilt edged chances to increase the lead. As it happened the goal never came and United again came back at Eaton making life difficult. However Wale in the Eaton goal made three excellent saves to keep the lead in tact. Eaton held on and made it six points from six. Not pretty but we will take it.
