Fulbourn Institute 0, Eaton Socon 2

30th August 2016 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier

Two goals from Lee Bassett saw Eaton go top of the Cambs Premier after a hard fought 2-0 win away at Fulbourn. This was a great performance against a big side whose long ball tactics caused Eaton a lot of trouble.. But the Eaton back five were superb and coped with everything that was thrown at them. The game was a midfield battle with few chances in the first half, though Eaton thought they had taken the lead on 25 minutes when a through ball from Gooch found Wilks who scored, however the linesman had raised his flag for offside and the goal was disallowed .. Fulbourn's aerial ability caused Eaton trouble around the 18 yard area but they never really troubled Wale and the scores were level at half time.

Eaton started the second half strong with Byatt raiding down the left and Gooch causing problems with his accurate passes and on 64 minutes great work from Bassett saw him hold off the defender, who tugged at Bassett's shirt. Bassett went down and a penalty was awarded. Bassett however stepped up and hit a low hard penalty only for the keeper to get down and save. Eaton though continued to press and on 70 minutes great work between Banbury and Byatt saw Byatt bearing down on goal. His shot hit the inside of the post and Bassett was there to tap home the rebound. Eaton were now the better team and causing Fulbourn trouble when they got in the final third, and on 79 minutes great work from Wilks found Bassett who beat two players before blasting the ball in the top corner.

This was Eaton's first away game of the season and they thoroughly deserved the victory that see's them top the league by three points. Six from six. And 100% start to the season. #ESFC
