Eaton Socon 4 Linton Granta 1

Eaton moved four points clear at the top of the Cambs Kershaw Premier with a hard fought win over Linton. Eaton welcomed back Neil Morris and Lee Bassett to the line up and it was Bassett who opened the scoring on 15 minutes when great work from Wilks found Bassett unopposed in the area and he headed home. Eaton had plenty of the ball but couldn't really take advantage and on 32 minutes Linton were level when sloppy play by Eaton allowed Dale Archer to pick the ball up and blast an unstoppable stop past Wale.. And minutes later Linton broke clear and the forward pushed the ball past Wale only for Spavins to clear off the line.. However it looked as if Wale had impeded the forward but the referee waved away the penalty appeals .. But it did look a stonewall penalty ... Linton before half time had a long spell of pressure and only good goalkeeping and defending kept them out .. And to make matters worse the influential Morris limped out of the game .. So all square at half time .. Eaton though came out a better team and started to dominate the game.. And on 56 minutes Bassett drove into the box and was hauled down.. The referee pointed to the spot and Bassett scored his 10th of the season from the spot .. Linton now started to push and this allowed Eaton to get in behind and on 77 minutes a great ball from Dawson found Wilks who volleyed home from close range .. It was soon 4-1 when great work from Bassett found Byatt who scored neatly past Jones in the Linton goal ... This is how it stayed until the end .. Top of the league still unbeaten .. But a top of the league clash at Lakenheath next week .. #ESFC
