Hemingfords United 1, Eaton Socon 5

8th October 2016 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier

Hemingfords Utd 1 Eaton Socon 5

Eaton's lead at the top of the Cambs Premier stretched to eight points after a comfortable 5-1 away win at local rivals Hemingfords Utd. After last week's game Eaton were wary of complacency and they knew they had to start the game quickly and this they did. Eaton have not scored in the first half for the last six games but they put that poor record to bed when on 10 minutes Ben Wilks finished off a fine move to put the Eagles ahead. This lead was however short lived when poor marking allowed the United striker a free header which beat Wale to level the scores. However straight from the kick off Eaton broke and a great cross from Gooch found Wilks who scored from close range with a fine header. Eaton continued to play fine football and the goal of the game was then scored by Shane Fox on 34 minutes when he superby controlled the ball, beat the defender and lashed an unstoppable drive into the top corner.
Eaton deserved their lead at half time and started the second half in the same vein with quick attacking football, and they were rewarded on 57 minutes when a surging run from Byatt saw him unleash a fierce effort that the keeper could not hold and it nestled in the net. The fifth soon came when Lee Bassett headed home after great work from Fox, and Eaton were home and dry.. Another good win on the road and now they look forward to the Cambs Invitational Cup at March Town on Wednesday night.
A Kirk Kidd goal in the dying minutes earned the reserves a well derserved point against Fenstanton. The visitors had taken the lead when White fouled the Fenny player and Ben Hall scored from the spot. Eaton worked hard and got themselves back in the game after missing a few very good chances.. but a point was fair for both teams and Eaton remain mid table..
The A team remain unbeaten after a great 6-1 win at Cherry Hinton.. Damien Chamberlain scored twice as the A's claimed three easy points and went to the top of the MG3A.. Troy Beavis, Charlie Gough, were among the other scorers....
