Brampton 2, Eaton Socon 3
22nd October 2016 :: Hunts Intermediate Cup
Brampton 2 Eaton Socon 3
A world class save from Milky Wale ensured Eaton booked a place in the quarter finals of the Hunts Cup.. in a scrappy tight affair their was nothing between the two teams but Eaton were more clinical with their finishing and that was the difference .. the first half was tight with Brampton probably shading it early doors but Eaton had two good chances when Bassett and Byatt both brought good saves out of Davis .. up the other end Turner and Cain were dangerous but were unable to carve out a clear chance .. on 35 minutes Eaton put together a worthwhile attack and man of the match Kays played a lovely pass to Bassett who stole in behind the Brampton defence.. he squared to Wilks who tapped home .. again Brampton came back and Turner should of scored but Flack got back to clear off the line .. and so Eaton went in one up .. the second half started slowly and neither side really got going but on 57 minutes a quality corner from Gooch found Whittingham at the far post and he headed home .. if Eaton thought at 2-0 they would be comfortable then they had to think again when the gangrenous Cain sprung the Eaton offside track and scored past Wale .. it had become nervy for the Eagles and Brampton threw players up to try and level the game .. however on 78 minutes Bassett broke clear and started to go wide of the goal.. Davis in the Brampton goal dived in and brought Bassett down .. the referee pointed to the spot and Bassett stroked home his 16th goal of the campaign. Brampton though were not ready to relinquish their hold on the trophy and pulled the score back to 3-2 when Garner scored smartly over Wale .. with two minutes left the match defining moment came when Gearing made in roads into the Eaton area and pulled the ball back to Owen whose shot seemed to be heading into the goal only for Wale to dive full stretch and tap the ball over the bar .. Eaton held on to win and book their place in Mondays draw.. great game against tough opposition .. in what manager Sammy Argyle billed as a must win the boys certainly didn't let him down. Eaton pressed high and didn't allow Alconbury anytime on the ball. They were rewarded with a great strike from mom Alex Shepard Eaton were dominating in all areas and danger at set pieces showed when kirk Kidd tapped home his follow up header. Tom Baxter finished a bullet header to increase the lead. The second half alconbury came out quickly but Eaton adapted well and took over proceedings again with the sub's making a great impact Ash Howard banged in his first senior goal in football and with ten to go tommy hall pulled off a technical worldly .. great footballing display from a team that finally showed there true selfs.
The A team lost 1-0 to Great Paxton Ressies ..
