Fowlmere 1 Eaton Socon 4
A double from Lee Bassett saw Eaton go through to the semi finals of the Cambs Premier League Cup after beating Fowlmere 4-1 at the Eternit Sports Ground.. however the score line does not really tell the story of a game that turned on its head as early as the 10th minutes when referee Boules sent Fowlmere striker David McDorough off for foul and abusive language towards Eaton keeper Milky Wale .. it seemed very harsh especially as comments/banter are banded around between players on a frequent basis.. but off he went and Fowlmere had to play for the rest of the game with 10.. however fair play to them as on 25 minutes a great cross from the right found Hammond at the far post and he headed superbly past Wale to give Fowlmere the lead.. Eaton though had chances with Fox, Bassett and Clare going close, and it really looked as if Fowlmere would frustrate Eaton.. and when on 35 minutes Howard in the Fowlmere goal pulled off a worldy save from Bassett it looked as if it would not be Eaton's day.. on 41 minutes however Eaton produced that bit of magic that got them level.. Clare knocked a free kick into Fox who laid the ball off to Bassett who blasted home .. level at half time .. however the ref was busy again when he dispatched the Fowlmere manager from the dugout for some choice words..
The ten men of Fowlmere started the second half as the better team and Hammond tested Wale again but he was equal to the task tipping the ball over the bar.. Fowlmere kept pushing but were susceptible to an Eaton break and on 58 minutes Eaton took the lead when great work from Clare and Bassett saw the ball fall to Fox who drilled home to make it 2-1.. Howard in the Fowlmere goal kept Eaton at bay with three more great saves but Eaton finally got their third when a shot from Fox was parried by Howard into the path of LGF who smashed home the rebound... three became four when Bassett shot home his 20th of the season .. however it was a weird result as Fowlmere were more than a match for Eaton .. but 18 unbeaten .. a semi in March .. job done ðŸ‘
Sammy and the Ressies somehow came away with nothing in a game they were on top of for long periods. The boys will have to be more clinical if they want to win games.. Kirk Kidd got the goal and Glenn Grimes was man of the match .: Jake Dexter scored in the A teams 1-1 draw at Girton .. more details to follow ..
So onto Tuesday when the Eagles travel to Wisbech Town for the Quarter Final of the Cambs Invitational Cup .. another big game against senior opposition .. good day .. again
