March Town 1, Eaton Socon 2

12th October 2016 :: Cambs Ridgeons Invitation Cup

March Town Utd 1 Eaton Socon 2

A goal 6 minutes from time from Mayson Byatt was enough to see Eaton through to the next round of the Cambs Invitational Cup.. Eaton who made their first foray into this competition deservedly won this game against higher opposition from the Thurlow Nunn League. Eaton came out of traps really fast and should have taken an early lead but Bassett's shot went over the bar. Minutes later a great shot from Wilks was pushed over the bar by Beeney.. but on fifteen minutes Eaton's pressure paid off when a great ball from Gooch found Fox who squared for Wilks to smash home.. Eaton continued to dominate  and further chances went begging and as always happens it allowed the other team into the game and on 36 minutes a mistake allowed March to get in behind and a great cross found Woods who headed past Wale.
Eaton should have regained the lead before half time but Bassett's shot hit the post and the keeper smothered the rebound. The second half became a tight affair with few open chances, however on 62 minutes Wood brought a magnificent save out of Wale when the ball looked destined for the bottom corner. Moments later Fox got in behind only to see his shot hit the post. The game looked like it was heading for extra time when a great move saw the ball fall to Byatt whose left foot effort found the net.. cue great scenes .. Eaton held on without any real danger for the rest of the game and are now guaranteed a big quarter final away tie.. thirteen games unbeaten.. the lads were quality tonight and now look forward to Foxton on Saturday
