Cambridge City Res 1 Eaton Socon 4

Eaton finally got their season back on track in 2017 when they produced a fine last 60 minutes to take all three points at Histon.
City started the better of the two sides and for the first half hour caused Eaton a number of problems.. and Eaton had to rely on counter attacks which didn't really amount to much.. City though deservedly took the lead on 21 minutes when Wale made a great claim from a cross and then went to distribute the ball quickly to Griffiths, however the ball seemed to be knocked out of his hand and the City player had the easy task of scoring.. one down and Eaton were not at the races..
Regretfully for Eaton Wilks had to depart due to a dead leg and Whittingham took his place, and it was Whittingham who started to put life into the Eaton attack with a number of mazy runs that caused the City back four all sorts of problems.. and on 40 minutes Whittingham went on one of those runs and put in a dangerous cross that beat everyone and nestled in the net.. Byatt claimed that he touched it on the way.. who knows ??? But Eaton were level..
And just before half time they took the lead when a quick throw caught City napping and great work by Clarke saw him stand up a cross and Bassett rose above the City defence to make it 2-1.. half time and though Eaton had been poor they went in ahead..
The second half saw a Eaton start quickly and City were on the back foot and it was not long before the lead was extended when great work from Griffiths found debutant Barry Clarke who beat the keeper to make it 3-1.. On 57 minutes Dan Pearce entered the fray for Griffiths and it wasn't long before Pearce was in the thick of the action.. a great reverse pass to Flack put the latter clear of the City defence and his cross found Bassett who stroked the ball home for his 34th of the season.. Eaton then went on to make a few more chances but could not get the fifth .. but a great away win and three big points.. a good day (at last) and Rosie said yes to Luke ❤❤❤
