Cherry Hinton 1, Eaton Socon 2

11th March 2017 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier

Lee Bassetts 37th goal of the season on 67 minutes saw Eaton grab three vital points away at Cherry Hinton. In a very good game Eaton were worthy winners, but should probably have put the game to bed before half time, but failed to convert the chances they made. Griffiths, Bassett and Wilks all had great chances to break the deadlock but either good goalkeeping or poor finishing kept the score at 0-0.. However on 27 minutes a great move from Eaton saw Shaun Flack advance into the Cherries area, he beat three players and was then fouled, but the ball fell to Wilks who smashed home his 19th goal of the season.. and that was the score at half time.

The Eaton makeshift back four were not troubled by the ineffective Cherries attack, but in the second half the Cherries raised their game and after Keech fouled the Cherries player on the edge of the area, a quality strike from the resulting free kick saw the game back to all square.
As of last week though Eaton would not be deterred and within two minutes Eaton were back in front when great work between Wilks and Byatt saw the latter put in a great low cross and Lee Bassett slotted home. The Cherries then threw everything at the Eaton back four, and as Over and Fulbourn have found in recent weeks the boys are a resilient bunch and though there was a couple of questionable penalty appeals, Eaton held on to take all three points. Eaton's availabilty issues will ease in the week, but a special mention to Jake Dexter, Joe Keech, Charlie Gough, Luke Dawson who have all stepped up and been superb, six points out of six in the league and a cup semi final win are proof of that..
Two goals from Adam Westbury and further goals from Kirk Kidd and Joe Cerveno saw the Ressies beat Manea Utd 4-0 at River Road.. this was a good performance against the basement club and one that keeps the Ressies in the promotion hunt...
