Eaton Socon 2, Godmanchester Rovers 2

18th July 2017 :: Friendly Matches

Eaton produced a workman like performance to earn a creditable 2-2 draw against Thurlow Nunn Premier League side Godmanchester Rovers. In a game where both sides played some good football a draw was probably a fair result. Godmanchester certainly were the better team on the night moving the ball around superbly and making Eaton work very hard, but Eaton were certainly up to the task and maybe could have sneaked a win. The game started with Rovers pressing the Eaton side and should have taken the lead but a shot from Furness went wide. Eaton though had few chances but on 16 minutes they took the lead when Goddy who looked solid in defence had a momentary lapse and Lee Bassett intercepted the ball and at the second attempt placed the ball past Peachey in the Goddy goal. That only stirred Goddy and they stepped up their game and on 26 minutes they equalised from a nicely worked corned when a flick on at the near post was met by Moran who headed home past Wale. All square at half time and Eaton as they did on Saturday made changes. And like Saturday Eaton benefited from a Luke Swain goal as Eaton took a 2-1 lead with 20 minutes to go. A ball into the box caused havoc and Swain was on hand to finish smartly. Goddy then pushed for the equaliser and put pressure on the Eaton defence. However for a time it did not look like it was going to be Goddy's night, however on 81 minutes Eaton failed to stop a marauding run from Knight-Percival saw him square the ball to Sparks who out muscled the Eaton defender to score. Both sides had further chances to win with Parratt for Eaton and Sparks again going close.

A good result though for the new look Eagles.. now on to Friday night and a local derby against Eynesbury Rovers.
