Eaton Socon 2, Foxton 1

2nd September 2017 :: Premier League Cup

Eaton made hard work of getting themselves through to the second round of the Cambs Premier League Cup when they finally beat a young spirited Foxton team 2-1 after extra time. Foxton seemed to be Eaton's bogey team this season as once again they made it difficult for the Eagles. And as of two weeks ago Foxton took the lead after Eaton once more were guilty of overplaying. But unlike two weeks ago Eaton got themselves level when Lee Bassett finished smartly after great work by Morris. Eaton though then failed to take the copious amount of chances with Stockwell probably having the best chance when one on one with the Foxton keeper, but he shot straight at the advancing keeper and the first half finished level. Eaton dominated the second half and chances fell to Bassett, Vale, and Gooch but they were all spurned and the game went into extra time.

This period was very much the same with Eaton having chance after chance. However with six minutes of extra time left Ryan Vale burst through and was brought down, referee Lake pointed to the spot and Lee Bassett scored to give Eaton the lead. Owen Dixon should have finished the game off when he hit the bar when it was easier to score. In the final seconds Bassett missed another penalty after he was brought down.

A tough afternoon for the Eagles but they are through to round two where they will entertain Comberton. To finish off a good day the club were pleased to announce a quality signing of Darren Woodend from Eynesbury Rovers. Jake Smith was man of the match.
