Flacktastic festive fightback

Eaton go into 2019 with only one defeat in the last nine in all competitions following a superb comeback from being 2-0 down after an hour at the MGS.

A goalless first half saw Eaton enjoy some decent possession and the excellent centre half partnership of Howard and Baxter were more than a match for the CUP attack.

The second half however started with CUP taking the lead almost from immediately from the restart with a speculative effort from distance that nestled into the top corner after dipping under the bar. Eaton pushed for an equaliser but fell further behind when the ball rebounded from both the bar and post and fell to the impressive Knight-Percival who made no mistake from close range.

The fightback started when substitute Mason crossed for full back Shaun Flack to convert from close range. The goal gave the home side new belief and with 15 minutes to play Lee Griffiths went through on goal before lifting the ball over the oncoming keeper and tapping into an empty net. Both teams went for the win and with CUP hitting the woodwork and Eaton’s Ben Cole having his solo effort saved, a share of the points was probably a fair reflection of the afternoon. Eaton Socon begin 2019 with an away league game at Comberton next Saturday, before their attention turns to the Hunts Cup Semi Final tie against Hemingford at the MGS on the 12th Jan.
