Eaton Socon res. 3, Godmanchester Rovers Res 2

3rd November 2018 :: Cambs FA County League MPG 1B

Eaton maintained their unbeaten start in the league by producing their best display of the season against previously unbeaten Godmanchester Rovers.

Eaton settled well and the front 3 of Fox, Moore and Mobbs were causing the Godmanchester defence all sorts of problems. Alan Moore gave Eaton a deserved lead and continued his fine form slotting home when put through on goal. With Eaton on the front foot Tom Hall picked up the ball 25 yards out and decided to try his luck, firing an stoppable effort past the away goalkeeper. Eaton should’ve added to the score line as the 1st half went on but went in at the break 2-0 up.

The 2nd half started in the same way as the 1st half had gone, but against the run of play, Godmanchester pulled a goal back, reacting quickest when the ball became loose in the area following a corner. With 20 minutes to go, Godmanchester drew level firing home a deflected shot that squirmed past the unsighted Simon White in the Eaton goal.

With the game turned on its head, Eaton dug deep and rallied and with 5 minutes to go they got the decisive goal which would give them the 3 points their performance deserved. The impressive Kyle Morris burst down the right hand side, beating two Godmanchester defenders before pulling the ball back for Fox to fire home brilliantly from inside the penalty area. A deserved victory for Eaton and they will look to keep their unbeaten start up when they travel to Chatteris next week.
