Eaton Socon res. 1, Isleham United 0

5th January 2019 :: Cambs FA County League MPG 1B

Eaton Ressies started the New Year with a hard fought win over a physical Isleham side.

Eaton came out of the blocks with great tempo but for all their good play couldn’t create any clear cut chances. This allowed Isleham to get back into the game but both sides were restricted to half chances. 0-0 at the break.

The second half saw more of the same. Eaton were trying to find a way through but the resilient Isleham team were making them work hard for any sort of opportunity. After a few substitutions Eaton created some chances with the impressive Barry Albone threading the ball through for Alan Moore who was denied by the Isleham goalkeeper. Moments later Moore was put through again with the goalkeeper saving once more, only for the returning Adam Boothby to slot home from close range in what was his first appearance since rejoining the club. The last 15 minutes of the game was a bit nervy for Eaton with their opponents going route one to try and grab an equaliser. Eaton’s back four held strong and saw the game out for an impressive 1-0 victory to move up to second in the league.

Next week Eaton travel to Alconbury in the league where they will be looking to cement their place at the top end of the table.

MOM’s today were Barry Albone and Kirk Kidd who both produced their best performances of the season so far.
