Bluntisham Rangers reserves 0, Eaton Socon A 0

5th January 2019 :: Hunts Lower Junior Cup

(Eaton won 3-1 on penalties.)

Eaton Socon started this semi final very brightly and were pressing high and dominating the middle of the park leading to a few chances which were saved by the Bluntisham keeper and the woodwork. Bluntisham did have a couple of chances to take the lead but wayward shooting and a couple of good saves from the young Harness in the Eaton goal the sides went in level at half time.

The second half began and Bluntisham started to take control of the game and could of gone ahead but again the young Eaton keeper and a solid back four kept them at bay. Changes were made to freshen up both teams but the score remained level, as the full time whistle was looming both managers made more changes to ensure all their first choice penalty takers were on the pitch. Final score 0-0

Penalty shootouts are always a tense affair and this one was not any different.

Bluntisham missed their first penalty which sailed over the bar. Josh Kane slotted Eaton’s first penalty comfortably. Up steps the young Eaton keeper and saves the second Bluntisham penalty. Jake Dexter strokes home the second Eaton penalty. Bluntisham score their third pen rally. Young Josh Manton steps up for Eaton and smashes the ball home. Again up steps the impressive Harness in goal for Eaton and saves the fourth Bluntisham penalty.

A cruel way to go out in a semi final but both sides played the match well and were a credit to their clubs.

Eaton now move into the final and have a chance at retaining the Hunts Lower Junior cup they won last year.
