Eaton Socon res. 2, Alconbury 2

23rd February 2019 :: Cambs FA County League MPG 1B

After 3 weeks without a game Eaton were back in action against a very good Alconbury side. It was Eaton who started brightly and created chances for Moore and Boothby who both went close. Alconbury took the lead though when a mix up at the back allowed Conor Gordon to steal in and poke the ball home. The goal knocked the stuffing out of Eaton and Alconbury were well on top winning every tackle and every second ball. It was no surprise when Gordon got his and Alconbury’s second. After being put through on goal he turned inside Kidd before slotting home to give Alconbury a 2-0 half time lead.

After a few stern words and a couple of changes at half time Eaton came out in the second half looking to turn the game around but Alconbury were defending well and stopping Eaton from playing. The game looked to be slipping away from the home side until Barry Albone fired home his first goal for the club fifteen minutes from time. This gave Eaton belief and  from then on in it was one way traffic. Eaton’s pressure saw them create chances and Albone should have scored again when great work down the right hand side from Moore saw him pull the ball back only for Albone to fire over. The pressure paid off when a corner from Humphrey was nodded home at the back post by Moore to make it 2-2. Both sides had chances to win it at the end but the game finished as a draw. A good point for Eaton in the circumstances.

Eaton continue their promotion push next week when they entertain Chatteris.
