Eynesbury United 2, Eaton Socon 3
26th April 2019 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier
Dom’s Derby double is spot on!
A Dom Mason brace from the penalty spot either side of a smart finish from Rhys Thorpe was enough to see the Eagles home in their final hotly contested game of the season against their closest neighbours Eynesbury Rovers.
Eaton started well and were on top of the early exchanges and when Ben Cole latched onto a through ball and was bought down as he rounded the home keeper; Mason confidently put the spot kick away to put the Eagles one up.
Both sides had good chances with Eagles keeper Stefan Gallucci and centre half pairing of Woodend and Baxter competently dealing with several Eynesbury attacks. Eaton went 2-0 up when a through ball saw Thorpe lift the ball over the oncoming keeper Wale and tapped in from close range.
Half time: Eynesbury Rovers 0-2 Eaton Socon
The start of the second half saw Eaton camped in their own half and it was no surprise when Eynesbury pulled one back following a free kick that was followed in from a Gallucci save. The onslaught continued and the scores were levelled when a ball over the top was chased down by Parrott before squaring for a tap in at the near post.
Eaton continued to weather the storm and were having some successes with Flack and Alderson linking well down the right. Eaton were unlucky not to take the lead when Lewis Davis struck the post from 25 yards with an effort that had the home keeper beaten.
It took another pen to settle the tie and when Whittingham was bought down following his run it was Mason again who stepped up to score from the spot and put Eaton 3-2 up.
Eaton held on as the final 10 minutes saw the game become end to end with both sides missing chances and when the final whistle went it was a deserved 3 points for the Eagles and the away dressing room was buzzing to end the season with a win and avenge the defeat by Eynesbury earlier in the season.
All in all a great way to end the season and a platform to build for the next campaign.
Final score: Eynesbury Rovers 2-3 Eaton Socon
